DANU NAY-LA

Specialty coffee and
tea from Ywangan, Myanmar

Specialty coffee and tea from Ywangan, Myanmar

Danu Nay-La produces organically grown, speciality Arabica and green tea in Ywangan township, southern Shan State. Our company is equally owned by a father, Mr. U Maung Nu, and daughter, Ms. Mee Mee.

All Danu Nay-La products are grown by the Danu people, an ethnic people in Myanmar. Most of our producers are also women. Our company's aim has always been to bring better futures and lives for the Danu ethnic group.

We started our business to support coffee, tea, honey, and macadamia farmers to earn a reliable living. We too were farmers from this area. We could not make a living working as individual smallholder farmers.

In 2018, we built the Danu Nay-La factory in Tatkone village, Ywangan Township, to process coffee and tea. The factory has a fully equipped coffee washing station (CWS) and our coffee regularly cups at 84–86.

In 2021, we produced 150 tons of green bean and 4–8 tons of green tea.

Danu Nay-La coffee and tea is exported to the EU and US, our drip coffee to Thailand, and roasted coffee is sold locally. This is our hope, though as of now, we have not yet exported.

Brand

Our green tea and other food products are branded Danu Ma Lay. It represents the Danu traditional girl.

All our products, from specialty Arabica and green tea to macadamia nuts and honey, are grown by Danu. Our brand acknowledges Danu land, youth and women who nurture these products.

The Danu culture of clothing is a way we acknowledge our heritage, values, and traditions. Danu women wear a deep red and black longy, which is a type of dress decorated with seven red stripes.

Sales & markets

I manage all the customer relations from orders to logistics, packaging, and internal paperwork. I value honesty, long term relationships, openness and transparency. I enjoy working with customers from all over the world, and in Myanmar.

We use direct customer sales. The buyers’ agents undertake all export matters.

We export our coffee and tea to the EU and USA. In 2022 , we started selling our 2 + 1 and drip coffee into the Thailand market.

We also sell online  to retailers and wholesalers, through agents and established clients.
